You can check my Youtube link as well. Learn the fundamentals of PCB planar transformer design, pcb spacings, and how to simulate a PCB planar transformer in Ansys Maxwell 3D. This course introduces the fundamentals of PCB planar transformer design, including key concepts such as PCB spacing (Core to PCB, trace to trace), layout considerations. PCB planar transformer is little different from wire wound transformers. A major focus of the course is on simulation, where you will learn how to model and analyze a PCB planar transformer using Ansys Maxwell 3D. We will specifically use the 3D transient solver and guide you step by step through its setup and configuration to accurately solve transformer designs.
Throughout the lecture series, you will follow a practical example by simulating a 1 kW LLC resonant transformer based on the Efficient Power Conversion EPC9149 reference design. You will learn how to properly excite both the ferrite magnetic core and the PCB windings, ensuring realistic operating conditions. In addition, the course covers detailed analysis of key performance parameters, including flux density, current density, and core saturation. You will also evaluate different types of losses such as core losses and winding losses, enabling you to optimize transformer efficiency and performance for real-world applications.
