Gas Processing Natural Gas fundamentals, LPG recovery, Aspen HYSYS simulation, and AutoCAD PFD & P&ID design
What you’ll learn
✓ Fundamental Hydrocarbon Knowledge: Understand the chemical composition and physical properties of Natural Gas (C1), LPG (C3/C4), and Condensate (C5+).
✓ Complete Plant Workflow: Master the 5 stages of production, from inlet receiving and primary separation to storage and export
✓ Technical Equipment Proficiency: Learn the mechanics and applications of separators (horizontal, vertical, spherical), turbo-expanders, and heat exchangers.
✓ Gas Treatment & Dehydration: Evaluate and select dehydration technologies, including Glycol Units (TEG) and Molecular Sieves, to prevent hydrate formation.
✓ Industrial Safety Design: Design and engineer flare and relief systems, including relief valve sizing according to ASME and API standards.
✓ Hands-on Simulation & Documentation: Develop full plant simulations in Aspen HYSYS and create professional PFDs and P&IDs using AutoCAD.
Requirements
● Basic Engineering Knowledge: Familiarity with general chemical or process engineering concepts is recommended
● Software Access: Access to Aspen HYSYS (for process simulation) and AutoCAD (for P&ID development) to complete the practical case studies. if availbale
Description
This course provides a comprehensive and practical introduction to Natural Gas, LPG, and Condensate processing, focusing on how real industrial gas plants are designed, simulated, and operated. It is structured to take learners from fundamental concepts to applied engineering practice using widely adopted industry tools and workflows.
The course begins by explaining what Natural Gas, LPG, and Condensate are, how they are formed, and why they are critical to today’s global energy market. You will gain a clear understanding of the differences between these products, their properties, and their typical industrial uses. This foundation allows you to understand not just how gas plants operate, but why each processing step is required.
You will then explore a complete gas processing plant overview, covering all major units such as inlet separation, condensate stabilization, gas dehydration, LPG recovery, fractionation, storage, and export systems. Special attention is given to key technologies including heat transfer, turbo-expanders, distillation columns, flare systems, pumps, piping, and valves, with a strong emphasis on practical plant logic.
A core part of the course is a realistic case study where you will simulate a natural gas processing plant using Aspen HYSYS. You will learn how to move from a conceptual process to a working simulation, and then translate that simulation into professional PFD and P&ID drawings using AutoCAD.
Finally, the course addresses safe operation, covering startup, shutdown, common operating problems, and best practices used in gas and LPG plants. By the end of the course, you will have a clear, practical understanding of gas processing from fundamentals to real-world engineering application.
Who this course is for
■ Engineering Students: Individuals pursuing a career in the oil and gas sector who want practical, industry-standard simulation skills.
■ Process Engineers: Those looking to specialize in natural gas processing and NGL recovery.
■ Production & Plant Operators: Professionals seeking a deeper understanding of equipment like separators, stabilizers, and flare systems
