Description
Analog layout is where circuit ideas become real silicon.
A schematic may look perfect, but without a well-designed layout, the fabricated circuit can suffer from mismatch, noise, parasitics, or even complete failure.

This course is a concept-driven introduction to CMOS analog layout, designed for learners who want to understand why layout decisions matter — not just how to draw shapes in a tool.

Starting from the fundamentals, you’ll learn how CMOS devices are physically built in silicon and how layout engineers translate schematics into reliable, manufacturable designs. You’ll explore CMOS layers, wells, diffusion, polysilicon, metals, vias, and how each layer affects electrical behavior.

Throughout the course, we focus on real-world analog layout principles, including parasitic effects, isolation, guard rings, metal usage, and verification. You’ll see how components like transistors, diodes, resistors, and capacitors are actually implemented in layout — and why their geometry and placement directly impact performance, power, and reliability.

Rather than being tool-dependent, this course builds layout intuition. You’ll develop both 2D and 3D awareness, learning to see beyond the top view and understand the physical structures underneath. Practical exercises — such as laying out a CMOS inverter — help reinforce concepts and connect theory to practice.

By the end of the course, you won’t just know how analog layout is done — you’ll understand why it’s done that way, giving you a strong foundation for advanced analog and mixed-signal IC design.
